DVD case template
"Amaray" DVD Case & Paper Sleeve
To create DVD case template, I should do research of dimensions and other existing things. Used sources (Disk Makers, 2009 / Dvd and Media, 2009 / Arvato Na, 2012)
I did found that typical/standard name of the DVD keep case is "Amaray case", which dimensions when is closed is 190x135 mm, the thickness for single disk case is 15mm, total size when is opened 190x285 mm.
However to create paper sleeve template here are different dimensions. Front and back panels have 129.38x182.56mm and spine panel have 14.3mm, where total size is 273.05x182.56mm. ("Arvato Digital Services", 2013).
Bleed - is extending any color, photo, or design elements past the cut line. Bleed gives a margin of error when trimming, so that if the cut is a little off, the white of the paper won’t show along the edge. Recommended size of bleed is 1/8-inch (about 3mm). ("Disk Makers", 2013)
So adding Bleed area to the paper sleeve, the calculations would be: 273.05+6 x 182.56+6 = 279.05x188.56mm
Safety margin - should be the opposite of bleed, recommended size is 1/8-inch (about 3mm) inside the crop marks. Main use is for important information such as a song title or an important part of a photo right up against the crop line, some of it may get cut off. ("Disk Makers", 2013)
Settings
In the image bellow is shown setting creating new Amaray Case Paper Sleeve Template. Width and Height sizes was calculated and explained before. Resolution is 300 pixels per inch and colors are RGB mode, because paper sleeve will be build on computer using monitor. When template will be send to print, it will be converted to CMYK color mode for better color recognition to the printer. ("Disk Makers", 2013)
