Amaray DVD Paper Sleeve - Putting All Together Second Attempt

Layout Changes and Description

After discussion and overview with my tutor of my work, I have done some changes in the layout of the papers sleeve. As you can see in the images bellow, there are compared two layouts: old and new.

 Old Layout

New Layout

Changed front of the case because decided, that in bottom it is missing symbol which show minimum age range of the auditory. At the top I added some logo, advertise symbol and kind of logo, to make it look more attractive, informative and professional.
Back of the case got reduced count of images, to make it less messy and that background would be more visible.
In the spine panel I reduced amount of information, to make case more tidy with less details and text.

Waves changes

Using "Hue/Saturation" effect and the "Eraser", I did add colors and effects to the waves at the top of front cover.

In the image bellow we can see layers of waves and hue/saturation. The reason of split image from hue/saturation effect in to different layers is that in the future could be easy to edit or remove effects.

Front Cover Changes

Because bottom of the front cover was too empty, I did move five images wider with more spaces between. This change did fill up bottom of the top cover.

Back cover changes

Using "Hue/Saturation" effect and "Eraser", I did change movie description area adding yellow color and red circles. This change I did because previous version was too simple and not so attractive as after changes.

(before changes)

(after changes)

As the most DVD case examples I have over viewed, most of them have description and actors presenting in the movie at the back of the cover. So my main chosen actors I did add at the back of the sleeve.

(before changes, Celebrity Gossip, 2013)

Using tools like "Eraser", "Lasso Tool", "Magnetic Lasso Tool", "Polygonal Lasso Tool", "Quick Selection Tool", Magic Wand Tool" I did manage to remove old background from image leaving only actors. The reason why did I used so many tool is that actors are dressed in black color clothes and background was black color. So was not easy to separate different objects similar color.

(removed background)

("Superman", 1978)

(Merged "The Hoover Dam" and actors)

(result)

Using "Hue/Saturation" effect and "Eraser" tool, I did change all image color to blue, then using "Eraser" I did clean faces from blue color leaving only them original colors. This action and changes gives more attention to faces of the actors and all surrounding area is in blue color not so sensible for eyes and similar colors to a papers sleeve background where dominate water, waves, blue and white color.

Second step was to add frames using "Rectangle" tool and changing colors.
Third step was to add blue starts on the corners of frames and waves. To do this I did use "Brush" tool with special effects.

The last attempt over view present in the bottom image.

Amaray DVD Paper Sleeve - Putting All Together First Attempt

Importing background

(Cg Textures, 2013)

After importing to photoshop

Editing and importing flood warning sign

(MKalty, 2008)

Modified upper image using Selection Tools and Refine Edges.

Imported layer with the FLOOD image stored in the right upper side. Then added level layer, to make everything darker, because may point to make paper sleeve darker, because it is disaster movie and leave white waves white, complete different contrast from remaining papers sleeve, because water and waves, ice and cold are main surrounding background theme of this movie.

Title

Using tutorial from (Photoshop Road Map, 2013), I did chose this tutorial because I wanted to add some cold, white and blue colors title on the dark paper sleeve contrast. In this tutorial shows how to do snow painting and ice texturing.

So using "Horizontal Typing Tool" I did write movie title "A Chance To Survive". Font size 48pt. and font type "Papyrus".

Following tutorial i did change settings on my title layer

Bevel & Emboss
Inner Glow
Satin
Pattern Overlay
Drop Shadow

This image was used for title letters background.
(HD Wallpappers, 2014)
Image was opened in to the Photoshop image editor. Then selected square of snow using selection tool and refined to new layer. Then new layer was duplicated and copied to the paper sleeve project.
We can see square of snow was moved over the title and was created "Clipping Mask" to the under layer which is title of movie.
In this image we can see "Clipping mask" effect result.
Using eraser tools and selecting special effect/form eraser, there was made cracks on the letters.
So last preview and the added snow on the title, using Brush tool with special effect/form.

Film description area

Texture which i downloaded, using photoshop we can see how did I change it in the following image.
(Motion Texture, 2013)

To get those changes I did use hue/saturation and transparency effects.

So changed image was imported  to the main paper sleeve project. I did add red borders and movie description text.

Waves and Oval sign

To create "True life stories..." sign, I used different color Ellipse tool to create 3 circles and attached text to it.
To create waves I did draw line using Line tool, then added Anchor points and played to get wave effect. Then I duplicated layer to get another line of waves.

Spin panel text

Using Vertical Type tool I did write movie title on the spin panel. Then using different effects managed to get quite interesting font texture.

Customer information area
Copy Rights, Bar Code, 12A and DVD

Bar code, DVD and 12A images I did download and stored at the bottom of my papers sleeve, because in most of the amaray style paper sleeve examples they are stored there. I think that most customers now days are used to this interface.
Copy Rights text was added on the black color rectangle which is attached to the rest of symbolic bar.

Front Cover Images

The original images was opened in the Photoshop, then using "Elliptical Marquee Tool" was selected circle of required area to crop. Then using "Refine edges" and adjusting edges smooth, feather and contrast I did crop to new layer. New layer was duplicated copying it in to my Paper Sleeve project. So all those images are in separate layers making them possible easy edit or delete.
